Counselling & Psychotherapy
I work with a wide range of clients and presenting problems. I provide both short and longer term counselling and psychotherapy which can be tailored to fit individual needs and circumstances.
Short Term Therapy (16 – 20 sessions)
Short term therapy can be helpful for many people. If you are suffering from a commonly diagnosed mental health problem such as depression or anxiety, experiencing difficulties in a relationship, or dealing with the impact of a stressful life situation, short term therapy may be the most appropriate option. It can also be a good way of trying therapy for the first time.
I provide a number of evidence- based therapies including Time- Limited Dynamic Therapy (TLDP) Psychotherapeutic Counselling and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). IPT is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) alongside CBT as a therapy for depression. It has been found to be particularly effective in helping people to improve the quality of their relationships and find different kinds of support from within their social network. This is something which sounds simple but is often very challenging for people especially when they are experiencing the sense of isolation associated with depression and other mental health problems.
Longer term therapy (variable length)
If you have long standing or complex difficulties stemming from early childhood or more recent trauma, longer term therapy may be the most effective option . Longer term therapy can also be helpful for people who have already experienced some benefit from a short term intervention and want to engage in further therapy. My approach to longer term therapy is integrative which means I draw on a broad knowledge of different therapy models including cognitive, psychodynamic and systemic approaches. I aim to work with each individual client to build a safe supportive relationship and adopt the therapeutic approach or combination of approaches which best fits their needs
